The recent Sundance Film Festival award winner, "Holy Hell," about the LA and Hawaiian group that is devoted to the Speedo-wearing oddball, Michel, is now available on Netflix and Amazon.

This excerpt from the filmmaker appears to refer to the old Golden Temple Restaurant at 3rd and Fairfax, the place that gave Culver City celeb chef Akasha Richmond her ticket to fame:

Everyone lived, cooked, did yoga, meditated and attended seminars (including acting and ballet lessons) together. Some worked together too. Allen, Coquet and Cheiffo said they were temporarily employed at an Indian restaurant whose clientele included Barbra Streisand, Ally Sheedy and Michael Jackson. A cultlike faction of Sikhs apparently hired the trio to pose on their behalf because “people in that cult were too spacey to be waiters.” They donned traditional Sikh turbans to appear authentic.

Vitamin deficiencies plague devotees who are forced to adhere to kooky, made-up diets -- it's part and parcel of the sick package that made 3HOers "too spaced out" to function as restaurant workers. It wasn't uncommon for Golden Temple Conscious Cookery workers to be used as unpaid labor in some restaurants. Add the starvation wages to the sleep deprivation and it makes paying dupes from another LA cult to sub-in as fake Sikhs look like a deal.

After Akasha became a private chef to Michael Jackson, Streisand, et al she added meat and fish to her offerings. She started getting a good night's sleep in addition to a steady paycheck. Too bad she hasn't discussed her deprogramming.

As I recall Akasha was an amazing cook - she also dished lots of gossip - it is an intoxicating mix good food and good gossip
